TORBAY Athletic Club’s Peter Monaghan claimed his second successive victory in the Armada Network Summer 5k Series at Saltram Park.
The over-50 veteran athlete had clocked the fastest time in April’s opening event and he repeated the feat on Wednesday night, despite having suffered a slight injury days earlier in the Ivybridge 10k.
Monghan was eight seconds slower this month but he still recorded an impressive 17.03 seconds for the timed course, which was 11 seconds faster than second-placed Travis Bramley (17.14).
Incredibly, three athletes all clocked the same time – 17.26 – behind Bramley, with Erme Valley’s Owen Parkin given third, Stuart Hall fourth and Plymouth Musketeers’ Alan Ryder fifth. All three were quicker than the previous month.
Plymouth Harriers’ Jane Allison was quickest women on Wednesday with a time of 20.26.
