CITY of Plymouth athlete Rory Summers will be eyeing 2025 with optimism after finishing his season with an international call-up.
Summers was selected to represent England at the end-of-year Under-20 International at Eton.
He was part of the England B relay team – running the final leg – that took second place behind England A in a time of 3:17.53 minutes.
The Mount Kelly student also ran in the guest 400m, finishing third in 49.59 seconds.
He earned his selection for the Eton home international after claiming fifth place at both the England U20 Championships and English Schools’ Championships.
At the national championships in July, he ran a personal best of 49.08 seconds, which just improved on the 49.11 seconds he ran at the same venue just a week earlier at the English Schools’ Championship.
He achieved those times and places at under-20 level while still only 16, as he did not turn 17 until near the end of last month.
After his first taste of international action, Summers, who joined Neal Edwards’ City of Plymouth training group last December after recovering from a stress fracture in his foot, now cannot wait for 2025.
“It was a great way to close the season,” he posted on social media. “I’m excited to see what next year holds.”
