IVYBRIDGE’S women’s team capped off a dream season by winning the RFU Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham on Sunday by beating Old Albanian Saints II 40-17.
The Bridgers have finished the 2025-26 campaign unbeaten, having stormed to the Championship South West 2 title.
Old Albanian did really push them hard in hot conditions at Twickenham and there was only two points in the game with 20 minutes to go.
But Ivybridge’s fitness and pace proved decisive in the closing stages as they ran in three late converted tries.
The Bridgers started well and had the chance to take the lead with an early penalty, but they were not able to make it tell and on 13 minutes their opponents kicked one at the other end to take a 3-0 lead.
But after a water break, Ivybridge showed what they could do with three tries to take a 19-3 half-time lead.
Fly-half Lauren Dent scored their first try from close range after some intense pressure.
Then eight minutes later, centre Beth Plumpton finished off a fine move on the left after a long-floated pass found her. She also added the conversion to make it 12-3.
And six minutes before the break, hooker Hannah Lumley scored an opportunist try, which Plumpton converted to make it 19-3.
But Old Albanian’s came out fired up for the second half and really put the Bridgers under pressure.
They scored two converted tries after intense pressure to close the gap to 19-17.
But another water break offered the chance for Ivybridge to re-group and they really turned on the style in the final quarter, scoring three well-worked tries from scrums in the middle of the park.
Birthday girl Chloe Huxter got their fourth when she broke through a tackle and had the gas to make it to the try line.
Speedy winger Charleigh Hopkin then scored the try she had been threatening when she burst down the right wing after good play from a scrum.
And Ivybridge produced an almost identical move to finish the scoring with number eight Michaella Roberts picking up from the base of the set-play and making good ground before switching it right, and this time, replacement Kelly Taylor was there to score.
Ivybridge will now turn their focus to preparing for life in Championship One.

What a fantastic day it was. There to support our daughter. It was so hot but the Ivy girls worked their socks off and fully deserve their win, and credit to the coaches and everyone else involved in the club. Commiserations to Old Albanian Saints II, they fought hard.
