City of Plymouth’s King moves to the top of the UK rankings with impressive run in California

CITY of Plymouth’s David King moved to the top of the UK 110m hurdles rankings with an impressive performance at a meeting in America.

King clocked 13.47 seconds to take victory at the 2024 Franson Last Chance meeting in Azusa, California.

British high hurdling is as strong as it has been for years with five athletes having run under 13.60 seconds this season and just 0.02 of a second separating the top three.

Also in California, King’s City of Plymouth team-mate Poppy Tank, the British 3,000m steeplechase champion, had a rare run out over the 5,000m distance.

Tank clocked 15:49.44 minutes to finish seventh in a strong field at the Track Fest Meet in Los Angeles. That was her second fastest time for the 12-and-a-half lap distance.

Meanwhile, fellow British steeplechase champion Will Battershill continued his comeback from injury by finishing second in the 3,000m flat at the Belfast Irish Milers’ Meet.

Battershill was just out-sprinted on the line by Callum Morgan. Morgan clocked 7:59.37 and Battershill finished in 8:00.03.
