Plymouth divers claim medals at Aquatics GB Elite Junior Championships in Birmingham

A NUMBER of young Plymouth divers returned from the Aquatics GB Elite Junior Championships in Birmingham with medals.

Amelie Underwood, Oliver Heath, Katie Martin, Maia Pearson and Isla Applin all made the podium at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, which hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Martin and Pearson teamed up to win gold in the 14-18 year girls’ three-metre synchro competition.

And impressive final round dive meant they were able to overtake Dive London’s Kitty Smith and Nancy Trew to top the podium.

Amelie Underwood claimed a bronze in that event with her Dive London partner Caitlyn Coster.

Underwood, who recently impressed for Great Britain at an international meet in Italy, did also win two individual medals. She took silver in the girls’ A three-metre event, where her club colleague Scarlett Colbourne also reached the final. She also claimed bronze in the one-metre event, finishing just one place ahead of fellow Plymouth diver Katie Martin.

European junior champion Oliver Heath, who has moved up an age group, claimed bronze in the boys’ A three-metre event, where his team-mate Archie Waines finished fifth. Heath just missed out on another medal in the one-metre competition, where he came fourth.

In the boys B category, Noah Underwood could not have come closer to making the podium. He finished fourth in both the three-metre competition and platform event, and was fifth in the one-metre final.

Applin, who had finished seventh in the both the girls’ C springboard events, claimed bronze with Southampton’s Ella Swete in the 9-13 years girls’ three-metre synchro final.
