City of Plymouth high jumper impresses on his international debut at top Czech event

A PLYMOUTH-born higher jumper enjoyed a sensational international debut for England at the weekend.

Ethan Glyde set a new personal best of 2.08m to win the under-18 title at the Hustopece World Athletics Tour event in the Czech Republic.

The under-18 competition was run alongside the under-20 event and he would have finished joint second in that age group as well.

Glyde, who won the silver medal at last year’s U17 England Championships in Bedford, competes for City of Plymouth AC – his hometown club – but does currently live in France.

He is enjoying an impressive indoor season and has improved his PB by five centimetres over the winter.

Glyde is the UK’s number one ranked U18 higher jumper and he is currently ranked in the top three in the world this year at that age group. He is also currently ranked sixth overall in the UK senior rankings and second in the UK under-20 rankings.

He will no doubt be hoping to secure more international honours this year.
