GALLERY: Hundreds of pictures from the Tavistock Triathlon at Mount Kelly

MOUNT Kelly played host to the Tavistock Triathlon on Sunday.

The intoTRI event, which is part of the Cornish Tri Series, featured Olympic standard, sprint and super sprint races, as well as a junior competition.

Michael Birchmore and Hannah Worth took the victories in the Olympic Squirrel event, which saw competitors swim 800m, cycle 36km and finish with a 10k run.

Birchmore finished nearly five minutes ahead of his nearest rival, clocking 1:59.08.

David Bartlett was second in 2:04.03, with veteran Robin Riches third in 2:05.15.

Worth won the women’s race by 15 minutes, finishing in 2:21.18. Second woman was Nikki Denton (2:36.39), with Ruth Glover third (2:42.10).

Ben Kent and Cornish youngster Georgina Clarke came out on top in the sprint – Big Squirrel – distance race, which involved a 400m swim, 18km bike ride and a 5.4km run.

Kent clocked 1:07.41, with veterans Chris Dominey (1:10.28) and John Steadman (1:11.04) second and third.

Clarke took victory in the women’s sprint by nearly 10 minutes. She clocked 1:17.36, with Lucy Hoade second (1:27.11) and veteran Helen Newton third (1:29.04).

The super sprint event – Little Squirrel – saw Zach Davis win by a stunning 20 minutes. The youngster finished the 200m swim, 12.3km bike ride and 2.5km run in 35.27 minutes.

Second place went to Andy Chase, who clocked 53.03 minutes, with Thomas Mitchell third (54.35).

Fourth place overall, and first female, was Cirsty Griffiths, who clocked 55.58 minutes. Cassie Bende was second in 1:08.56 and Alice Mitchell was third in 1:14.38.
