Pillage to make his long-awaited return from injury at final World Cup event in Turkey

PLYMOUTH pentathlete Myles Pillage will make his long-awaited return from injury at next week’s final UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Cup of 2022 in Ankara, Turkey.

Pillage, who won the European Championship mixed relay gold medal with fellow Plymouth pentathlete Kerenza Bryson in 2019, has not competed since March 2020 due to Covid and breaking his arm, which ruled him out for more than a year.

“I wasn’t able to fence for 13 months because of the injury, but I am back at full fitness now and I’m really excited to be competing again,” said the Great Britain international, who combines his pentathlon career with studying biochemistry at the University of Bath.

“It’s two years since my last competition and my first chance to experience the new format, which includes potentially competing on back-to-back days, so I am not putting too much pressure on myself by setting targets.

“I know what I have to do in terms of following the process and hopefully that will get me through to the semi-finals, and then the final.”

Fellow Plymouth pentathlete Bryson has been in top form this season, winning the British title and claiming top 10 finishes at the last three UIPM World Cup events, but she sits out next week’s event, which takes place between June 7 and June 12.
