Leander’s Paralympic champion Dunn named in Commonwealth Games squad

PLYMOUTH Leander’s Reece Dunn has been confirmed in Team England’s swimming squad for this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Multi-Paralympic gold medallist Dunn joins his former Leander team-mates Laura Stephens and Ben Proud in the 48-strong squad.

Reigning Commonwealth Games 50m freestyle champion Proud had already been pre-selected, but S14 athlete Dunn and butterfly specialist Stephens were named on Wednesday, along with 36 others.

It will be Dunn’s first Commonwealth Games and follows his amazing success at last year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo where he won three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Ex-Mount Kelly para-swimmers Will Perry, Michael Jones and Hannah Russell were also named in the team on Wednesday.

Team England’s Chef de Mission, Mark England OBE, welcomed the swimmers to the team.

He said: “We’re very pleased to welcome 38 more swimmers to Team England for the home Commonwealth Games this summer.

“This completes our Swimming and Para Swimming team of 48 athletes in total.

“I’m looking forward to watching them compete and Bring It Home in the pool over the six days this summer.”

The swimming events at the Commonwealth Games will be held at the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre between July 29 to August 3.
