ATHLETICS: Holland and Landers make their mark at Taunton events

TAVISTOCK AC’s Adam Holland produced a strong run to take victory in the Taunton Marathon on Sunday.

Holland clocked 2:34.36 to claim the win by nearly a minute-and-a-half from Michael Sandiford. Third place went to Okehampton’s Robert Kelly, who clocked 2:48.00.

Taunton also hosted a half marathon on the same day, which saw Tamar Trotters’ Jacob Landers take second place in a new personal best time.

Landers clocked 1:08.48 to finish behind Exmouth’s Tom Merson, who won in 1:07.06.

Plymouth Musketeers’ Ross Macdonald was sixth overall and third M35 in a PB time of 1:15.07.

Meanwhile, Tavistock AC’s Nikki Kelly enjoyed success at the First Chance 10k at Exeter on Sunday.

Kelly finished as first woman in a time of 38.48 minutes.

Athletes from the region were also among the prizes at the Power Run at Powderham Castle 10 and 5 mile events.

In the 10-mile multi-terrain run, Plymouth Harriers’ Matthew Walkey was sixth overall and third M35, while club colleague Michelle Cooper was second F35.

Tavistock’s Peter Bazley was first M65, while in the five-mile race, Tavistock Run Project’s Dave Chanter was second M65.

Elsewhere, Erme Valley Harriers’ Nick Bristow was third M45 at Tuesday’s Run Exe Summer 5k Series run in 18.26 minutes, while Tavistock AC’s Sam Lake was third F40 in 20.34 minutes.

This coming Wednesday, the Armada Summer 5k Series will be returning to Saltram for the first time since 2019.

There will be six runs in the series on April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10 and September 14.
