Caradon Swimming Club go the distance to win Cornwall county trophy

CARADON Swimming Club have got their hands on a new trophy after they were presented with the John Hickman Cornwall County Trophy for distance swimming at the weekend.

The club were awarded the prize after impressing in the 800m and 1,500m events at the Cornwall Championships in Penzance.

A club spokesperson said: “This is a first for Caradon and we are delighted that after such difficult times, due to covid restrictions and getting swimmers back in the pools with limited pool time, the swimmers were able to compete again and with such amazing success.”

Caradon had 22 qualifiers at the 800m distance that is nearly half their swimmers and 14 qualifiers at the 1,500m distance.

The club ended up with two golds, two silvers, five bronzes, three fourth places and two other top six places in the 800m and two golds, three silvers, three bronzes, two fourth places and two other top six spots in the longer distance.
