Smart sets new 3,000m personal best at BMC meeting in Exeter

TAVISTOCK Run Project’s Oliver Smart set a new 3,000m personal best at the British Milers’ Club (BMC) meeting at Exeter on Tuesday evening.

Smart ran 8:46.83 minutes for the event, which was incorporating the senior South West Championships.  That time ranks him 13th at under-17 level in the UK.

He was seventh overall in a fast senior race that was won by Bristol & West’s Callum Jones, but he was the first athlete under-23.

Former City of Plymouth athlete Jack Williams was 11th in 9:14.59.

City of Plymouth’s Dean Smith set a season’s best time of 1:56.51 to take second place in the 800m A race.

There was a PB for his younger team-mate Oliver Woodmason, who clocked 2:05.65.

Plymouth Harriers’ John Cooper won the 800m D race in 2:10.15, while Tavistock’s under-15 athlete Ewan Dix set a PB of 2:26.63.

In the women’s 800m, City of Plymouth’s Hayley Harvey came second in 2:18.84, with Tavistock’s Tilly McDowell fourth in 2:23.34 and Jade Kinsey running a season’s best of 2:27.05 in the same race. In the other heat, Erme Valley Harriers’ Ella Isaias and Olivia Travers clocked 2:31.60 and 2:33.49, respectively.

In the 1,500m, Tavistock’s Joe Beaton finished in 4:22.33, while Erme Valley’s Liam Hallows ran 4:43.29 and City of Plymouth 13-year-old Thomas Jones was just outside his PB with a 4:44.75 run.

In the women’s 1,500m, Tavistock’s under-17 athlete Charlotte Tilney ran 5:28.18, with younger team-mate Charlotte Walker clocking 5:41.10.
