OPMs warmed up for next week’s opening David Butt Memorial Trophy match against Old Techs with a club run-out alongside Plympton Victoria on Saturday.
Plym Vic did not have enough players to make up a full team so OPMs divided their squad up so a competitive match could be played at Marsh Mills.
It proved an even contest with the OPMs XV beating the Plym Vic XV 38-36 thanks to a last-gasp try.
“We turned up and they had seven players,” said OPMs coach Howard Turner. “But we had 25-26 players in our squad so we’ve mixed-and-matched to get two teams out and had a good run around. It was good fun.”
Turner even got his boots on to make up the numbers.
But said afterwards: “Hopefully, I won’t be getting my boots on again this season.”
