ERME Valley Harriers triple jumper Sam Trigg will make his international debut next month after being selected for the Great Britain team to compete at the World University Games in Chinese Taipei.
Trigg was added to the squad this week after an impressive season for the University of New Mexico in the USA, where he has been studying for a Masters degree.
The former Ivybridge Community College pupil achieved All-American honours by claiming a top eight finish in the NCAA Championships.
This year Trigg has improved his personal best from 15.74m to 16.38m.
Trigg has gone over 16-metres a number of times this year and is currently ranked fifth in the UK.
He is one of just 19 competitors named in the Great Britain athletics team for the multi-sport games in Chinese Taipei.
The event runs from August 19 to August 30, with athletics taking place over five days in the middle of the games.
Trigg tweeted: “Very excited to represent Team GBR at the World University Games this year in Taipei. My first international – thank you @BUCSsport.”
The Erme Valley athlete joins Plymouth swimmer Jessica Jackson in the GB squad.
He is also the second Erme Valley Harrier to earn GB honours this summer, with Will Battershill selected for this month’s European Junior Championships in Italy.
