Raiders aim to cause an upset and win their first trophy in 10 years

PLYMOUTH Raiders will aim to end a 10-year wait for some silverware on Sunday when they play reigning champions Leicester Riders in the BBL Trophy final at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena (3.30pm).

Raiders won the BBL Trophy in 2007, but that remains their only top-flight success. They did reach the final in the 2011/12 season, but lost to Newcastle Eagles in a then two-legged affair.

The Plymouth side, who have lost their last four league games, will go into this year’s one-off final as underdogs.

Leicester have won their last 15 matches and sit top of the BBL Championship. They have also won their last 15 meetings against the Raiders, although the last clash did go to overtime.

Raiders, though, are happy to be underdogs and hope they can cause a surprise in Scotland.

Raiders guard Elvisi Dusha: “We have had a few performances lately that maybe you wouldn’t want before a big game like Sunday, but at the end of the day the final comes down to which team wants it more.

“To Leicester, winning is everything and they have a fantastic coach with some serious players on that roster, so they know what it takes to win.

“They compete year in, year out in these big competitions so we really need to leave everything on the floor Sunday afternoon for a shot at winning.”

The match will be available to watch on BBC website.
