CITY of Plymouth’s Simon Anderson successfully retained the 1,500m and 3,000m over-50 titles at the British Masters’ Indoor Championships at Lee Valley over the weekend.
European champion Anderson clocked 4:29.39 to comfortably win the 1,500m event.
He was more than 11 seconds ahead of the second-placed Tony Tuohy of Dulwich, who clocked 4:41.08.
Anderson, in his fourth year in the over-50 category, was equally dominant in the 3,000m final.
He clocked 9:39.86, which was quicker than his 2016 winning time. Tuohy was also second in that race, finishing in 9:47.22, with Shaftesbury’s Simon Rayner third in 9:49.44.
Anderson, who coaches many of Plymouth’s top young middle distance runners, also found time to run the 800m, where he finished fourth in the final in 2:17.22. He had jointly won his heat in 2:19.44.
