Plymouth Leander’s Stephens wins three medals at Edinburgh International Meet

PLYMOUTH Leander’s Laura Stephens won three medals at the Edinburgh International Meet in Scotland over the weekend.

The Plymouth College pupil claimed a silver and two bronzes at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

Her silver came in the women’s 200m butterfly final where she was just edged out for the title by Stockport’s Holly Hibbott.

Hibbott clocked 2:11.15, with Stephens touching in 2:11.31 and Newcastle’s Emily Large finishing in 2:11.55.

Stephens then took bronze in the 100m butterfly behind Denmark’s Emilie Beckmann and Loughborough’s former Plymouth College pupil Charlotte Atkinson.

Beckmann won in 59.00 seconds, Atkinson stopped the clock at 59.50 and Stephens touched in 59.85.

Great Britain international Stephens then finished the three-day competition by winning bronze in the 50m butterfly skins event.

She was only beaten by the Danish pair of Beckmann and Amalie Mikkelsen.
