TOM DALEY secured a bronze medal in the men’s 10m individual platform competition at the opening FINA/NVC World Series event in Beijing on Sunday.
The Plymouth-born diver scored 520.35 points to finish behind home favourites Aisen Chen and Hao Yang.
Olympic champion Chen won with 556.25 points, with his Chinese team-mate Yang scoring 554.70. Only the top three divers in the final managed to break the 500-point mark.
European champion Daley was extremely consistent all the way through the competition, albeit without hitting his very best form. All his dives scored more than 83 points but only one – his final effort – topped 90 points.
Daley, though, would have been pleased to make the podium after narrowly missing out on doing so in the men’s 10m synchro and three-metre mixed synchro events.
He finished fourth in the men’s synchro with Dan Goodfellow on Friday before also having to settle for fourth with Grace Reid in the mixed springboard synchro on Saturday.
