Young judo stars secure places in the England Academy

judo Adam Vosper and Lewis Widdicombe IVYBRIDGE Community College judo stars Adam Vosper and Lewis Widdicombe have both been selected for the England Academy.

The pair, who are members of the highly successful South Brent Judo Club, had to go through rigorous testing that assessed their cardio, athleticism, gymnastic ability, core strength, flexibility and judo skills to secure their places.

Their selection means they have the opportunity to compete in European Cadet Cup events.

It also means regular training sessions at the British Judo Association’s Centre of Excellence in Walsall.

Their first training session following their selection saw the duo join 150 cadets, juniors and seniors from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Norway, Austria and Croatia for a weekend that consisted mostly of randori.

To add extra spice to the weekend the South Brent boys got to share the mat with numerous Olympians and even enjoyed a randori with a few of them. Widdicombe got to fight with 2012 Olympian Danny Williams.
