More international honours for City of Plymouth athlete Weir

thumbnail_img_1850 Victoria WeirCITY of Plymouth athlete Victoria Weir has secured a third international call-up in just a matter of weeks.

Weir made her international debut at the start of December when she helped Great Britain to team gold and secured a top 10 individual place in the junior women’s race at the European Cross Country Championships in Sardinia.

The teenager, who is in her first year at Birmingham University, will represent Great Britain again this coming Saturday (January 7) at the televised Great Edinburgh International Cross Country event. Two-time double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah will be among her GB team-mates in the Scottish capital.

And now, to cap a great couple of months, Weir has all earned her first selection for England.

She will represent them at the IAAF Permit cross country event in Elgoibar, Spain, on January 22. The former Plymstock School pupil, who won the English Schools’ steeplechase title in the summer, will be one of four junior women picked to represent England at that event.
