Runners ready to get 2017 underway with January Jaunt

THE first big running event of 2017 takes place in Plymouth this weekend with the hosting of the annual January Jaunt 10k race.

The event, organised by the Plymouth Round Table, will be held on Sunday, starting a 9am at the Plymouth Devils’ speedway track at Marsh Mills.

The race takes runners into the Saltram estate before returning to St Boniface Arena.

Last year’s event proved incredibly popular and sold out before the day, with 492 of the 500 entered runners finishing the race.

Sam Prictor and Rebecca Ezra claimed the men’s and women’s 2016 titles.

Will BattershillThe South West Club and County Cross Country Championships also take place in Devon on Sunday.

They are being held at Exeter Racecourse and a number of the region’s leading athletes will be representing Devon, while others will be running for their clubs.

The event starts at 11.30am, with the non-championships under-11 development race. That will be followed by the boys and girls’ championships races at under-13s, under-15, under-17, with the senior women’s and men’s events the final two of the day. Entries for the championships closed before Christmas.
