PLYMOUTH triathlete Travis Bramley showed he is making a good recovery from a serious back injury by claiming victory in the Playitas Resort Gran Tarajal Swim.

Bramley, who was British youth triathlon champion last year, has spent most of this season on the sidelines after damaging two facet joints in his back.

He only returned to training three weeks ago but he was still too good for the rest in the 5km open sea water event in Fuerteventura.

The 17-year-old, who had come third overall last year, finished in a time of 56 minutes and 15 seconds.

He was 30 seconds ahead of the second swimmer home, who was Daniel Gonzalez Fernandes.

However, the Ivybridge Community College pupil was not the only member of the Bramley family to enjoy success at the Playitas event.

His younger sister, Aegean, 14, who impressed at the recent ASA National Open Water Championships, was first female junior home and second women overall.
