TAVISTOCK’S Josh Davies enjoyed a successful day on his home track at the latest Devon Open Series event.
Davies triumphed in the under-17s 100m, 400m and 800m.
His highlight was the 800m where he set a new personal best of 2:08.84, despite the windy conditions.
He then ran 54.53 seconds for the 400m, having earlier clocked 11.90 seconds for the 100m.
Among the other athletes gaining personal bests at Tavistock was City of Plymouth’s Hannah Blair, who won the senior women’s 1,500m in 4:51.92.
Plymouth Harriers’ Harrison Roberts also gained a new PB in the under-17 men’s 1,500m with a time of 4:45.05.
Tavistock’s Jenny Milburn took the under-15 girls’ 1,500m race in a season’s best 5:01.82, while team-mate Oliver Woodmason won the under-13 run over the same distance in 5:05.23.
Erme Valley’s Paige Johnson enjoyed a good afternoon, by winning the under-13 girls’ 100m and shot putt with personal bests. She ran 14.04 seconds for the 100m and threw 7.48m in the shot.
Her Harriers’ team-mate Estelle Hodges won the under-15 75m hurdles in 13.37 seconds and the long jump in a personal best 4.55m.
There was home success in the sprint events with Jade Kinsey winning the under-20 200m in 27.48 seconds and Joe Wheeler triumphing in the under-13 150m in 20.79 and also winning the 75m hurdles in 15.01 seconds, which were both PB times.
Tavistock team-mate Aimee-Leigh Clowes, fresh from competing at the English Schools’ Championships in Gateshead, won the under-20 high jump in 1.58m, and 63-year-old club colleague Allan Herdman ran 2:27.73 to win the men’s 800m. That ranks him in the top seven in his age group in the UK.
Plymouth Harriers’ pair of John Cooper and John Porter ran 9:26.18 and 9:27.72 in the 3,000m, while City of Plymouth’s Courteney Weston clocked 65.35 to win the under-20 400m.
In the field events there was plenty of success for home club Tavistock. Edward Fileman won the under-15s hammer in 30.44m, Ella Tomlin threw a new PB of 8.95m to claim the under-17 shot, while Harry Tomlin took the under-13 shot title in 8.91m. Club-mate Jude White also won the under-17 men’s long jump with 5.29m, with Ben Pitts jumping 4.47m on the way to first place in the under-13 event.
City of Plymouth’s Kayleigh Weston threw 22.79m to grab victory in the under-15 girls’ hammer, while Erme Valley’s Alex Sheridan won the under-15 shot with 8.96m and his team-mate Bronwyn Harris took victory in the under-13 high jump with 1.35m
