Plymouth’s Knight named England women’s new cricket captain

cricketPLYMOUTH’S Heather Knight has been appointed as the new England women’s captain.

The 25-year-old former Plymstock Cricket Club star steps up from the vice-captaincy position she held under Charlotte Edwards and will be assisted by Anya Shrubsole.

Her first task will be to lead England in three-game one-day and Twenty20 series with Pakistan later this month.

Knight, who was in Plymouth Argyle’s girls’ centre of excellence as a youngster, said: “I’m hugely proud and honoured to be named England captain and can’t wait to face the challenges ahead.”
