PLYMOUTH Studio School has teamed up with Plymouth Cricket Club to give young Devon star Matt Petherbridge the opportunity to put his coaching skills into practise.
Sixteen-year-old spin-bowler Petherbridge, who is playing for Devon under-17s and Devon Lions this season, is studying for his BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at Plymouth Studio School.
He is currently under-taking work experience with Plymouth Cricket Club coach, Tim Turnbull, to observe the latest in first class standard cricket coaching techniques.
Plymouth Cricket Club’s high performance manager and coach Turnbull was voted Australian Cricket Coach of the Year in 2015 and has assisted the Australian Sports Commission in developing on-line coaching courses.
Turnbull has held the position of head coach for various NSW and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) underage teams as part of Cricket Australia’s development programme.
Turnbull said: “It’s great to be able to teach Matt some of the key modern fundamentals of cricket coaching utilising the latest technologies in sports performance management – including player video analysis, performance management programs, sports psychology and motivational techniques.”
Plymouth Studio School specialises in sport. They are currently offering taster days for anyone interested in joining in Year 10 or 12. More information can be found at www.plymouthstudioschool.co.uk.
