Devonport Services IIIs on the Pedrick Cup last season. This year they will be looking to lift the Ellis Trophy
THE Lockie Cup and the Ellis Trophy will be up for grabs on Wednesday night when the Plymouth Combination finals conclude at the Rectory.
Last week saw Tamar Saracens IIs win the Pedrick Cup and Plymstock Albion Oaks IIs the RNEC Cup, both beating sides from DHSOB.
This Wednesday it will be Old Techs, Peninsula Medical School, Plympton Victoria and Devonport Services IIIs who will be looking for glory.
First up is the Ellis Trophy final, which sees Devon Two strugglers Plym Vic take on Devonport Services IIIs. That match kick-offs at 6pm.
Plym Vic might not have won a league game this season but they have impressed most of their rivals with their improved displays.
And they showed how far they have come by beating Saltash IIIs in the semi-finals at the start of this month.
Western Counties West outfit Devonport Services, though, have plenty of strength in depth and so will offer a tough test to them. Services IIIs won the Pedrick Cup last season at the Rectory.
The Lockie Cup final kick offs at 7.45pm and will see Old Techs try to claim the trophy for the first time in 16 years. They last won it in 2000 when the final was played at Beacon Park.
Techs did reach the final two years ago, but lost to Plymouth Argaum.
Having just missed out on a return to Devon One this season by finishing third in Devon Two, Techs would like something to show for their season.
“We are a bit disappointed with how the season panned out with not winning promotion,” said Techs’ Shaun Bedford-Smith. “But we were not really consistent enough.
“However, it would be good to finish the season on a positive by winning the Lockie Cup. That would help us build for next season.”
Admission into the Rectory is £4 for adults, with under-16s free.
