Teenage Plymouth fencer to compete in world-ranking event in Budapest

tia simms-lymnPLYMOUTH fencer Tia Simms-Lymn will compete in her third senior world ranking competition this weekend.

The 16-year-old, who represents for Jamaica, will take part in the Westend Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary.

The competition will see more than 200 of the world’s top epee fencers try and win valuable ranking points. The tournament is the final Olympic qualification ranking event of the 2015/16 season.

Simms-Lymn enjoyed a successful 2015. Among her many achievements was winning gold in the under-17 epee event at the Pan American Championships in Canada and claiming two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships in Cape Town.

If all things go to plan, the city teenager will compete at the American zonal Olympic qualifying competition in Costa Rica in April.
