PLYMOUTH Combination clubs will again be well represented as Devon look to end their National Under-20 campaign on a high against Cornwall at Camborne on Sunday (2pm).
Both Devon and Cornwall go into this weekend’s match without a win to their name so far in Pool Four of the competition.
Devon lost 30-15 to Gloucestershire and 19-13 to Berkshire, while Cornwall were beaten 36-14 at Gloucestershire and 19-7 at Berkshire.
It is possible the losing county on Sunday could be relegated to the second tier of under-20 rugby.
Ivybridge’s Billy Pinkus, Damon Akerman, Joe Walker and Sean Harrison are named in Devon’s squad to travel over the Tamar. Devonport Services, meanwhile, will be represented by Joe Daley, Luke Stannard and Tyler Busfield, Plymouth Albion by Jim Massey and Noah Nash, Saltash by Dom Mulberry, Plymouth University by Will Mason and the University of St Mark and St John by Matt Hanford.
Devon have had their chances to win in both their opening games, particularly in their last match against Berkshire, where they camped on their visitors’ line for the final 10 minutes looking for a winning try.
“Hopefully, we can start this game where we finished the last one,” said team manager Gareth Jones. “We were really starting to gel as a team and play some good rugby.
“If we can be a bit more clinical in the opposition 22 then, hopefully, reward will come.
“If just one or two plays had gone the right way in the last two games we could be going into this fixture already in the quarter-finals. But those matches have gone and we can’t dwell on them.
“We go into this game with pride and bragging rights to play for and also the possibility of relegation to a league below.”
