Mount Kelly’s Kinsman wins two bronze medals at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Romania

MOUNT Kelly swimmer Blythe Kinsman will be returning home from the World Junior Swimming Championships in Romania with two bronze medals.

The European junior champion made the podium in Otopeni in the women’s 50m backstroke and mixed 4×100 medley relay.

Just weeks after winning gold in Slovakia at the European Junior Championships, backstroke specialist Kinsman once again showed her prowess over the one-length distance.

She was one of only two Europeans to make the final – and was the only one to medal.

In a close battle, 18-year-oold Kinsman was just edged out by Australia’s Ainsley Trotter and South Korea’s Seungwon Kim.

Trotter clocked 27.88 seconds, Kim 28.00 and Kinsman 28.04 seconds.

Kinsman also helped Great Britain to a bronze medal in the mixed medley relay, leading the team off with a 1:01.15 backstroke 100m swim.

Double individual breaststroke champion Filip Nowacki, 50m butterfly gold medallist Dean Fern and 50m freestyle silver medallist Theodora Taylor then brought the team home to third behind Japan and USA.

Meanwhile, Kinsman’s Mount Kelly team-mates Edie Price and Rio Daodu both reached individual finals in Romania.

European junior silver medallist Price, still only 16, finished eighth in the women’s 200m butterfly event, where only two Europeans made the final. She clocked 2:11.40.

Daodu, 17, made the final of the men’s 50m backstroke event with a 25.23 semi-final swim. He finished eighth in the final. He was also part of the GB men’s freestyle relay team that came fifth in the final.
