ATHLETICS: Tank ends 2024 in fine style at Podium 5k event, while Ezra-Ham wins Christmas Caper

CITY of Plymouth’s international athlete Poppy Tank ended 2024 in fine style by finishing second in the women’s elite race at the Mizuno Podium 5k event at Battersea Park on New Year’s Eve.

Tank and Olympic 1,500m runner Revee Walcott-Nolan broke away from the main pack early on and were neck-and-neck for most of the race until the Paris track semi-finalist just pulled away in the closing stages.

Walcott-Nolan won in 15:39 minutes, with Tank clocking a personal best time of 15:44 minutes.

Third place went to Reading’s Great Britain under-23 international Mia Waldman, who clocked 15:53.

Meanwhile, Tamar Trotters’ Bex Ezra-Ham impressed at the recent Torrington Christmas Caper 10-mile off-road race, which features mud, forest trails, rivers and hills.

Ezra-Ham stormed to the women’s title in 1:09.51 and was only beaten by four men.

James Baker took the men’s title in 1:02.07, with Ceri Rees second and first M50. Nick Bennett and James Speak finished third and fourth.

Helen Harbottle was second woman and first F50 in 1:19.35, with Claire Watkins third.
