NEARLY 150 teams took part in the popular Tavistock Town Relays on Thursday night.
The annual event forms part of the Tavistock Carnival and sees each runner in a four-person team complete a 1.1 mile lap around The Meadows.
The relays, hosted by Tavistock AC, were split into three races – juniors, women’s and men’s/mixed – while there was also a family fun run beforehand.
City of Plymouth and Tavistock AC dominated the junior races.
The overall winner of that was City of Plymouth’s Year 9/10 boys’ team of Benjamin Marriott, Freddie Blight, Daniel Salmon and Isaac Lamerton, who came home in a time of 22.10 minutes
Second overall – and first Year 11/12 – were the Tavistock team called ‘Mills’, which was made up of Noah Reid, Sebastian White, Ollie Houlberg and Flynn Baker. They clocked 22.30 minutes.
Third overall was the Tavistock Year 9/10 ‘Kerr’ team of Joe Wake, Connor Duffin, Ruben Sebag-Montefiore and Caleb Gifford-Groves.
Fourth overall and the winners of the year 7/8 boys’ category were the City of Plymouth quartet of Lucas Sweeney, Taylan Jones, Seb Travers and Finley Eales.
City of Plymouth won three of the four girls’ age group races. Their year 11/12 team of Molly Gilbey, Verity Tank, Bella May and Molly Shorey came first overall in 25.26 minutes, but their year 7/8 side of Elsie Goodspeed, Alya Orgacki, Daisy Elliot and Jenni Merrifield were not far behind in 26.06 as they won their section.
Evie Welsh, Evie Bolt, Magot Goodspeed and Florrie Zinn took victory in the girls’ year 5/6 category for City of Plymouth, while the Tavistock team called ‘Muir’, which was made up of Tamsyn Reid, Claudia Jones, Anya McAulay and Lamorna Cox won the year 9/10 girls’ event.
The City of Plymouth side of Jack Penney, Alfie Forester, Jacob Sweeney and Logan Mansfield were first year 5/6 boys’ victors.
Tavistock AC were dominant winners of the women’s race. Their quartet of Nikki Kelly, Hannah Smith, Jasmine Gray and Charlotte Walker won by nearly a minute in a time of 24.16.
Second place went to Plymouth Storm Chases’ team of Lauren Knox, Lisa West, Lisa Todd and Charlene Matthews. They clocked 25.10 minutes.
Third women’s team overall were the Fast & Fabulous RFRF side of Ruby Lawrence, Jeanette Johnson, Hollie Fitzgerald and Nikki Kelly, who clocked 26.04 minutes.
Tavistock’s ‘For TAC Sake’ team won the F35 category, East Cornwall Harriers’ ‘Brave Hearts’ were first F45 and Tavistock 60+ were the F55 winners.
The men’s/mixed race was won by the Hopton Harriers’ quartet of Jamie Pullinger, Sam Hopton, Andy Chambers and Ollie Thorogood. They came home in a time of 20.25 minutes.
Twenty-six seconds behind them were the City of Plymouth quartet of David Weir, Matthew Bradley, Joshua Blake and Daniel Newman, while Tamar Trotters’ team of Richard Ezra-Ham, Luke Attwood, Ollie Oldfield and Jacob Landers took third in 20.59.
Scrambled Legs won the M40 team, with Muskies winning the M50 award and East Cornwall Buccaneers claiming the M60 crown.
