Plymouth Argaum end their season with their annual Chairman’s XV v President’s XV fixture

PLYMOUTH Argaum ended their season with their annual Chairman’s XV v President’s XV at Bickleigh Down on Saturday.

However, this year the event had a difference as for the first time there was also a women’s fixture.

Chairman Stuart Quarterman said: “It was a wonderful day with two games that were an absolute credit to the club.

“The Tigresses kicked off the entertainment with an exhibition game of touch.  With plenty unavailable, to see 18 players on the pitch was fantastic.

“The large crowd were treated to a great 60-minute game of touch, which produced some fantastic flowing rugby.  Some of the attacking moves were incredibly slick and produced some great tries.

“The men’s game was another treat to watch.  Excellently refereed by Mackenzie Tuckwell, it proved to be a much closer first half than many had predicted – the President’s XV nullifying most of what the Chairman’s XV could throw at them.

“A yellow card toward the end of the first half for the President’s Dean Avery, saw a flurry of tries in response from the Chairman’s XV and it looked very difficult for the team in green to come back from what looked like an unassailable lead.

“Having shaken both sides up a bit, the President’s XV did pull a couple of tries back.  And it was agreed that ‘last try wins’… and up popped Ben Baggott on the left wing, to steal the game at the death.

“With over 60 players representing the club, it was a day to remember.”

The Chairman’s XV were winning 66-29 before it was decided to finish the game on the last try.
