Plymouth’s Tom Daley is officially confirmed in Team GB’s squad for a fifth Olympic Games

PLYMOUTH’S Tom Daley will compete at a fifth Olympic Games this summer after he was officially confirmed in the Team GB squad for Paris first thing this morning.

Daley, who famously made his Olympic Games debut as a 14-year-old in Beijing in 2008, will represent his country in the men’s 10m platform synchro event with Noah Williams.

He won that discipline with Matty Lee in 2021 in Tokyo and he will be looking for an historic fifth Olympic medal in France.

He won an individual bronze medal in London 2012, a synchro bronze with Dan Goodfellow in Rio in 2016 and then he fulfilled his dream of an Olympic gold with Lee at the last Olympics in Japan, where he also won an individual bronze.

Team GB confirmed their synchro pairs overnight, with Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding competing in the three-metre men’s event, Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen taking part in the women’s springboard competition and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson making up the women’s platform pair.

The rest of the Team GB diving squad will be confirmed after this month’s British Championships at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England said: “Congratulations to the first eight divers selected to Team GB for Paris 2024. All four pairs have proven that they can challenge for podium places on the world stage, and it is fantastic to see the calibre of diving athletes getting stronger and stronger with each Games.

“There is also a fantastic mix of youth and experience within the squad, and I am delighted to welcome Olympic champions Jack and Tom back to Team GB for a fourth and fifth Games respectively. Congratulations to Tom in particular who becomes the first British diver to compete at five Olympic Games, a remarkable achievement.”
