West Country Hawks player Carrico to make his Great Britain debut at Musholm Cup

WEST Country Hawks Rugby Club’s Bruno Carrico will make his Great Britain debut this weekend at the 2024 Musholm Cup in Denmark.

The event, which gets underway today, is the first stop in a busy competition schedule for the GB team ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Carrico is delighted to get the chance to represent his country.

“I am really excited at this opportunity,” he said. “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions since I was invited to my first GB camp.

“I will be proud to wear the GB vest in my first international game. It will be a special moment.”

Carrico has been part of GBWR’s talent pathway for last two years.

Having recently being invited to GB camps, the Hawks player has impressed the coaches, and is named as part the 12-person team in Musholm.

Carrico has charcot-marie-tooth disease (CMT), which affects both his arms and legs, and he has only been playing wheelchair rugby for three years.

The West Country Hawks train at the Plymouth Life Centre and always welcome new players.

Anyone with a disability interested in trying wheelchair rugby can find out more or get in touch with the club via their website at https://www.hawkswheelchairrugby.co.uk/
