Tavistock and Plymouth athletes help Devon senior girls claim English Schools’ team title

TAVISTOCK AC’s Charlotte and Hannah Walker and City of Plymouth’s Molly Shorey and Molly Gilbey were part of the Devon senior girls’ team that claimed glory at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Pontefract on Saturday.

Devon totally dominated the team event in that age group, winning by a massive 124 points in West Yorkshire, thanks to five runners finishing inside the top 50.

The county were led home by European under-20 champion Innes Fitzgerald, who won by nearly a minute.

Exeter athletes Scarlett Livingstone and Lucy Milliner were 12th and 16th respectively, with Tavistock College’s Charlotte Walker 31st and Plymouth College’s Molly Shorey 49th.

Isla Bryson, Gilbey and Hannah Walker made up the successful team.

There was also a good run in the senior girls’ race by City of Plymouth’s Holly Reid, representing Cornwall. She followed Charlotte Walker over the line, finishing 32nd.

Among those representing Devon in different age groups were Luke Hayes, Fynn Baker, Anya McAuley, Isabella Trowell, Daniel Salmon, Elsie Goodspeed, Lamorna Cox and Lorenz Baumgartner, while Georgie Gilbert, Jacob Robinson, Evie Green, Ayla Orgacki and Jack White were among the Cornwall squad that travelled to the prestigious championships.
