WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: FA Cup disappointment for Argyle while Plympton and Saltash move top of their leagues

PLYMOUTH Argyle crashed out of the Women’s FA Cup at the fourth-round stage on Sunday as they were beaten 6-1 at Home Park by Nottingham Forest.

The high-flying National League Northern Division side were always in command and led 2-0 at the break thanks to two goals from Louanne Worsey.

They quickly got a third courtesy of Holly Manders at the start of the second half before Sophie Domingo, Mai Moncaster and Mollie Green made it 6-0.

However, in front of nearly 2,000 spectators, Argyle did grab a consolation effort courtesy of substitute Jade Berrow.

In the South West Women’s Premier Division, second-placed Marine Academy Plymouth eased to a 3-0 away victory over bottom side Frampton Rangers, thanks to goals from Fedra Leal, Siana Goddard and Samantha Drewery.

In the Western Division, Saltash United moved to the top of the table after they beat title-rivals Ilminster 2-1 at home with a late strike from Nicola Symons.

Neither side could find the net in the first half where chances were few and far between.

But nine minutes into the second period the Ashes were awarded a penalty after Nicola Champion was brought down in the area. Champion got up and calmly fired the spot-kick home.

However, Illminster equalised 10 minutes later with a stunning long-range lob from Jodie Cornwall.

The game looked like it was heading for a draw but in the 89th minute Symons fired in from a corner.

The visitors did press hard in injury-time and they did have a great chance from a corner themselves but they fired well over the bar.

In the Devon Women’s League Premier Division, Plympton moved to the top of the table with a hard-earned 2-1 away win at Teignmouth. Elsa Finnegan and Sam Metters scored their goals.

In the Devon South & West Division, Elm United enjoyed a 12-0 home win over Tavistock.

Hannah Yates scored four for Elm, with Natasha Forsythe bagging three and Becky Brown two. Also on target were Mandy Cox, Toni Lunt and Lauren Hewing.

In the Devon Senior Cup, SB Oak Villa continued their unbeaten season with a 6-0 home win over Braunton.

Oak Villa netted three in each half, with Rachel Finch claiming a hat-trick and Olivia Lennox, Katelyn Berry and Ella Stevens also on target.

In the same competition, Horrabridge Rangers were beaten 7-1 away at Devon North & West Division leaders Appledore. Kirsty Jones scored their consolation effort in north Devon.

In the Cornwall Women’s League Division One, Saltash Borough beat RNAS Culdrose 5-1 thanks to goals from Molly Gill (2), Samantha Burnham, Stacey Gill and Harriet Howell.

And in the Cornwall Supplementary Cup, Callington Town beat Charlestown 11-0 with goals from Chloe Yorath (3), Kirsty Hughes (2), Elowen Strong (2), Jess Davies, Harriet Hall and Anya Lawrence.
