Plymouth’s Tank named in GB team for European Cross Country Championships

CITY of Plymouth’s Poppy Tank will earn more international honours next month after she was named in Great Britain’s squad for the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels.

Tank booked her spot on the team for Belgium by finishing as fifth senior woman at the Liverpool Cross Challenge on Saturday, which were acting as trials.

Last season Tank impressed for Great Britain at both the European Championships, where she finished 13th and help her country to team silver, and the World Championships in Australia.

She then took that cross country form into her first season as a steeplechaser, which saw her win the British title in Manchester.

Tank also competed for Great Britain at under-23 level at both the 2018 and 2019 European Cross Country Championships.

This year’s championships will take place on December 10 and Great Britain will be sending a full team of 40, which includes Exeter’s Innes Fitzgerald and Sam Mills.

GB team leader Chris Jones said: “Cross country running in the UK continues to go from strength to strength and the performances in Liverpool further illustrated this. We saw some incredibly competitive trial races across the board, so we are pleased to have selected a strong GB & NI team which will be in a good position to take on the best in Europe next month.”
