CITY of Plymouth athletes Nubia Evans-Shields, Nicolas Maczugowski and Henry Curtis and Tavistock AC’s Phoebe Milburn have all received a call-up for England.

The quartet will represent their country at the Under-20 Welsh International at the end of this month.

The meeting will be split into under-18 and under-20 categories, with English Schools’ medallists Evans-Shields, Maczugowski and Milburn in the under-18 England team and Curtis in the under-20 squad.

Evans-Shields will compete in the discus, Maczugowski the 400m hurdles, Milburn the hammer and Curtis the 110m hurdles.

England team manager Hayley Hemmings said: “Many congratulations to all the athletes, their coaches, and clubs following selection of our England team for this year’s Welsh International.

“For many this will be their England debut, we are pleased to be offering both U18 and U20 the opportunity to compete in this event, as the season ends. We wish everyone involved this weekend all the best.”

“It is good opportunity to see athletes who are currently on the YTP and JTP get the chance at a national level competition – which will aid to their future development in the sport.

“England Teams have historically been very successful at this event and we hope for the same again this year.”

Evans-Shields, Maczugowski and Milburn have already earned international honours this season by representing England Schools at the SIAB International in Scotland, where they all returned with medals. Evans-Shields also represented England Athletics at a meeting in Sweden earlier this year.

Coach Neal Edwards will also be part of the England management team.
