PLYMOUTH’S Doaa Shayea has been named in the Great Britain squad for this summer’s World Para Powerlifting Championships in Dubai.

It will be her second international powerlifting competition having switched to the sport from athletics.

She enjoyed a successful debut in GB colours when she won a bronze medal at September’s European Championships.

Shayea will compete in the 61kg class in Dubai in an important event ahead of next year’s Paralympic Games in Paris.

The World Championships will take place between August 22 and August 30.

Despite being a relative newcomer to powerlifting, Shayea has her eyes on making the Team GB squad for next year’s Paralympics.
