IVYBRIDGE hooker Jake Winters scored two tries as Devon booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Jason Leonard Under-20 County Championships by beating Dorset & Wiltshire 26-3 at Cross-in-Hand on Sunday.
Winters scored once in each half on his home pitch as Devon eased to victory.
The county side also included his Ivybridge front-row team-mate George Montgomery, Devonport Services players Toby Lean and Oli Symons and OPMs full-back Fred Smale.
Devon knew they had to win to reach the last eight after narrowly losing 25-24 to Cornwall away in their opening game.
Winters got them off to a great start with a converted try in the opening 10 minutes.
Dorset & Wiltshire kicked a penalty not long later but Devon went 14-3 in front at half-time with a converted try by prop Matthew Hicks.
Early in the second half Winter scored his second of the match from a catch-and-drive.
And five minutes later Smale put Okehampton winger Ollie Moody clear to score in the left corner.
Devon will now play Kent away in the quarter-finals, while Cornwall, who topped the group, will host Hertfordshire.
Elsewhere at the weekend, Ivybridge’s second team continued their unbeaten season in Devon Merit Table Division One by beating their Sidmouth counterparts 33-16.
The Bridgers went 9-0 down in the opening 20 minutes before the game was stopped for 50 minutes due to a nasty-looking knee injury suffered by a Sidmouth player.
Once the game resumed, Ivybridge took control and ran in five tries courtesy of Henry Partridge (2), Simon Merryfield, Jack Mitchell and Sam Wilmington.
In Devon Merit Table Division Two South & West, DHSOB edged out Plympton Victoria 17-12 in a competitive match at St Mary’s, while OPM Jesters triumphed 34-7 against the University of Plymouth.
