PLYMOUTH Corinthian’s Rob Shaw set a new course record to take victory at the Cycle Sport South Hams 10-mile time trial on Sunday.
It was his first win of the season, having finished second last week to Travis Bramley at Plymouth Corinthian’s sporting S46/16 time trial, second at City Cycle Couriers 10 last month and third on the same Avonwick course at the start of April.
Shaw was 58 seconds quicker than he was four weeks ago on the course that starts and finishes in South Brent and takes riders out to Avonwick and Fork Cross before heading back via the A385.
Shaw was well ahead of the rest of the field, finishing a minute ahead of second-placed rider, veteran Tom Scorer (Royal Navy), who came home in 23.37 minutes.
Third place went to RAF rider Rob Willcocks, who clocked 23.38 minutes, with Mid-Devon’s Callum Start fourth and first junior (22.46). City Cycle Couriers’ Andrew Parnowski was fifth (24.48), with Plymouth Corinthian’s James Cartlidge and Nopinze Motip’s Nick Blight joint sixth.
Kari Eilertsen was third woman and first on a road bike in 31.36 minutes.
Sunday’s time trial was the fourth race in the Devon Cup series.
