ATHLETICS: Yearling is first home in opening Armada Winter 3k Series run

PLYMOUTH Harriers’ Sam Yearling led the way in the opening Armada Winter 3k Series run of the 2019-20 season.

Yearling clocked 9.55 minutes for the event around Plymouth’s Central Park, which was 11 seconds ahead of Tavistock’s Bart Thomas.

Luke Gibbons was third home in 10.39 minutes, with veterans Graham Bale (Plymstock Road Runners) and Pete Waumsley (Storm Plymouth) fourth and fifth in 10.46 and 11.06 minutes, respectively.

Bridgend’s Katrin Higginson was first women in 11.48 minutes, with Tavistock’s Elyse Kedzia-MacDonough second exactly a minute behind and Tamar Trotters’ Imogen Rickard third in 13.56.

Meanwhile, Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Yetton was second women at the Burnham-on-Sea Half Marathon on Sunday. Yetton clocked 1:28.22 to finish behind Bristol & West’s Annabel Granger.

Fellow Plymouth Harrier Alex Peyton-Jones was fourth overall in a new personal best time of 1:17.57.
