TAVISTOCK AC athletes Joe Wheeler and Edward Fileman both won medals at the England U17 and U15 Age Group Championships at Bedford at the weekend.
English Schools’ champion Wheeler took silver in the under-15 boys’ 300m final.
After progressing through heats and semi-finals, Wheeler was just edged out on the line for gold by Spenborough’s Bayleigh Lawton.
Lawton smashed his PB to clocked 36.13 seconds and go second in the UK rankings behind Wheeler, who finished in 36.28 seconds at Bedford. Wheeler has run 36.01 this season.
Meanwhile, club team-mate Fileman, another English Schools’ medallist, took bronze in the under-17 discus event. He once again enjoyed a good battle with Neath’s Harry Davies and Wimborne’s Kane Aubrey.
Less than one metre separated the three of them on the day, with Welshman Davies taking gold with 50.79m, Aubrey taking silver with 50.00 and Fileman agonisingly just behind with 49.96m.
England international Fileman, who has thrown 51.70m this summer, just missed out on two medals in Bedford. He also finished fourth in the under-17 hammer event with 55.65m.
