PLYMSTOCK Albion Oaks’ impressive season continues with five players named in Cornwall’s team to play Dorset & Wiltshire in their opening Gill Burns Women’s County Championship match of the season on Sunday at Launceston (1.30pm).
Oaks claimed the Women’s South West South Two title in style this year by winning all their games to finish 10 points clear of Penryn in second spot. They also reached the national cup quarter-finals.
Now a number of their players are rewarded with county honours.
Shannan Hocking will start at fly-half for Cornwall, with Jo Roberts lining up at centre. Team-mates Claire Hannigan, Lucia Honey and Rhian Roberts will start on the bench at Polson Bridge.
Fellow Oaks player Lisa Pringle, meanwhile, is named as travelling reserve for Devon’s County Championship Division One match away at Gloucestershire on Sunday.
Plymouth Albion also have players named in Cornwall and Devon’s teams. Verity Waters, Anna Clooke and Jo Holden will start in the pack for Cornwall, while Beth Ayling will line-up in the centre for Devon, who rely heavily on Cullompton players for their opener at North Bristol.
