Dixon just misses out on second medal at World Junior Championships

PLYMOUTH’S Matthew Dixon narrowly missed out on claiming a second medal at the World Junior Diving Championships in Kiev.

Dixon and his Great Britain partner Noah Williams had won silver in platform synchro event on Saturday evening.

They both then went for individual glory the following day.

Dixon qualified for the final in second place and was in a medal position all the way  through the showpiece event until his last dive. He needed 72 points to make the podium, but he didn’t quite nail his reverse three-and-a-half somersault final effort and only scored 61.20 points.

That meant he finished fifth and second European.

China’s Junjie Liam won, Russia’s Ruslan Ternovoi was second, China’s Zheng Li was third and Canada’s Rylan Wiens fourth. Dixon’s Great Britain team-mate Williams finished seventh.

The British platform pair will now move on to the European Championships in Edinburgh.
