PLYMOUTH Leander swimmer Tom Fannon won a silver medal at the BUCS Swimming Championships in Sheffield at the weekend.

The Marjon student medalled in his favourite 50m freestyle event at Ponds Forge.

He was only beaten by his international team-mate David Cumberlidge. Both athletes will be part of the England swimming team at April’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.

At the National Winter Meet in December, which acted as final trials for the Commonwealth Games, Fannon won and Cumberlidge was second.
