Herrera helps Mariners to high-scoring win over St Austell Claycutters

DANIEL HERRERA collected four hits in five bats as Plymouth Mariners defeated St Austell Claycutters 35-14 on Sunday in the South West Baseball League Southern Conference.

Herrera walked in the first, tripled in the third, tripled in the fourth and singled in the sixth.

League leaders Plymouth Mariners collected 22 hits and St Austell 17 in the high-scoring affair at Central Park.

Plymouth took an early lead in the first innings, scoring one run on a stolen base.

However, it was in the third innings that they took the lead for good with eight runs.

Herrera tripled off Sleeman, driving in two runs, Kaz Rahman doubled, driving in one, Martin Mules singled, driving in one run, Darren Helley singled, driving in two runs, and Herrera tripled again off Sleeman, driving in one run.

The home team then scord an impressive 13 runs in the fifth innings, thanks to a single by Mules, a single by Keith Day, a walk by Papadakis, a single by Rahman, a walk by Devan Macdonald, another single by Mules, a walk by Day, a single by Dan Brown, and a double by Papadakis.

St Austell scored five runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

Herrera, Brown, Mules, Day, and Rahman each collected multiple hits for the Mariners.

Plymouth tore up the base paths on the day, with seven players stealing at least two bases.
