TAVISTOCK rugby player Luke Northmore has earned England Student honours.

The young centre, who scored seven tries in Tavistock’s opening four matches last season, played for the national student side against England Under-20s, who were warming up for this summer’s Junior World Cup.

Northmore, who is in his first year of studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University, is now hoping to for the England Student Sevens side this summer.

He has enjoyed an impressive first season playing university rugby and was voted their newcomer of the year at their recent awards dinner.

Tavistock, meanwhile, held their presentation night at the club on Saturday evening.

Martin Budden was voted their first XV players’ player of the year, with the captain’s award going to Mark Friend, who finished as top try scorer, just ahead of skipper Andrew Schuttkacker.

The club person of the year award went to Lisa Hair for her on-going support and efforts throughout the season in the kitchen and behind the scenes with both the junior and seniors.

Jasper Cameron claimed the colts’ player of the year award, with Richard Cann, another colt, winning the second XV player of the year. The second XV captain’s award went to Sam Eaton.

Tavistock have confirmed that Hammy Kerswill and Will Reed will continuing coaching the Cornwall/Devon League side.

Mark Lamerton, though, has stepped down as colts coach after two excellent seasons. He will be replaced by Adrian Cameron.
