Erme Valley Harriers athletes make their mark as club prepares for bumper 10k

Nathan Brown set a new 800m personal best at the BMC PB Classic Meeting at Street on Monday.

Brown, an under-20 athlete, clocked 1:56.21 to knock more than one-and-a-half seconds of his previous best time for the two-lap event.

The race was won by Edinburgh’s Sam Brown in 1:54.52.

Meanwhile, Erme Valley were well represented at the Run Exe 5k Series race on Tuesday evening.

Youngster Sam Yearling was first under-15 and fifth under-20 in a time of 18.17 minutes.

The only other Erme Valley athlete to beat him was Tom Packer, who finished 11th overall in 17.40 minutes.

Team-mate Alison Thorn was third female and first over-40 in 18.26.

Just six seconds separated the top three women, with Haldon’s Elizabeth Dyson clocking 18:20 and Torbay’s Charlie Arnell just pipping Thorn on the line with 18.25.

Tavistock’s Allan Herdman was first male over-60 in 19.20 minutes.

Erme Valley Harriers will be hosting their popular Ivybridge 10k on Saturday.

The race, which starts at 6.30pm, will have a record entry with all 800 places having already been filled.

There will also be a new winner as Great Britain junior international Will Battershill who took honours in the race last year is currently studying in America.

David Hampton, Simon Anderson, Pete Monaghan, Steve Hill and Pete Waumsley, who all finished in the top eight last year, are among this year’s entries, as is Jim Cole, who has recently won the half marathons at Plymouth, Taunton and Tavistock and was Ivybridge champion in 2013 and 2011.
