Plymouth fencer Andrews claims British under-16 epee title in Sheffield

PLYMOUTH College fencer Ben Andrews was crowned British Youth Under-16 epee champion at the weekend.

Andrews overcame the country’s best young talent at the three-day championships held at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield.

Fencers had to qualify from their regions to compete and Andrews met his South West rival Luke Mason in the final.

Andrews had to dig deep to come from 5-1 down to take a 15-14 victory and the title.

His success in Sheffield followed on from an impressive 15th-placed at the Under-17 World Championships a few weeks earlier and also a good display at the European Championships.
